About The Unsilenced

THE UNSILENCED SCREEN ACTING LABS is a part time drama based creative incubator program for the aspiring actor and creative. Founded with a mission to curate a space where diverse talent can flourish.

The Unsilenced is committed to producing artists, actors and icons who are trained and encouraged to take up space and star in projects on stage and screen. Writing, devising work, scene study, voice and movement work are also a part of the curriculum.

The arts is a discipline and The Unsilenced is equipped to develop the raw materials of those who pass through its doors, in order to create actors and creatives who will have careers marked by longevity and range.

We draw on a diverse talent pool of actors who are united in their passion for learning and becoming great at what they do. We encourage individuality, we guide you to find your unique voice and we create the space for you to find community with your fellow students. You are developing and refining your talents whilst making life changing friendships that have the potential to last a lifetime.

The Unsilenced Universe

We are story tellers, which makes us world builders. The Unsilenced is an ecosystem of supportive and generous creatives who lead successful careers in the arts and who will also pop by to lead workshops, give masterclasses and headline industry talks and mixer events.

Faculty

As The Unsilenced grows we will be taking on more teaching support from working actors and artists already in the field, able to offer our students sound, applicable and up-to-date skills training that encompasses modern styles and techniques currently seen on our stages and screens today.

Intergenerational & Gender Expression Free

We are convicted in our belief that no one is past their sell by date in the pursuit of their dreams. We welcome all ages — from 18 years onwards — and irregardless of gender expression, including non-binary and trans students.

We are actively working to decolonize our training, especially when it comes to the western classics — such as Shakespearean plays, Greek drama, and 20th Century Russian (Chekhov), African (Soyinka) and European (Lorca) plays. In casting these works in our theatre training classes we consciously seek to cast according to talent and suitability, minus gender.

In fact, the creative ethos that defines The Unsilenced is to disrupt the status quo and not to uphold it.

The Imagination

At The Unsilenced we encourage our students to imagine a world beyond the one we are currently in. And we commit ourselves to equipping our students with the tools to bring about that world, and be at the centre of it.
